The NWT has been divided into Management Zones and Areas for the purpose of conserving and managing wildlife in the NWT. The larger zone boundaries are named and may be subdivided into smaller areas to meet specific management requirements. These boundaries are updated as required for wildlife management purposes. This dataset was originally created to support the 1998 Revision of the NWT Wildlife Act and the applicable Regulations to ensure that the boundary of any wildlife area was accurately mapped at a scale of 1:250,000. The metes and bounds descriptions and corresponding boundaries in the respective Regulations have been updated to be in compliance with the 2014 update to the Wildlife Act and to fulfil a commitment to comply with metes and bounds descriptions in paramount legislation from Canada and the settled land claim areas in the NWT.

Previous maps of the Wildlife Management boundaries were manually drafted on maps at a scale of 1:4,000,000. The data has the potential to be used for a variety of other wildlife management purposes. These boundaries have been legally described as part of the Wildlife Act Regulations. These boundaries have been used as the basis of the maps used for the annual Hunting Regulations Maps. Boundaries have been updated as required due to changes in the legislation.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 14 0;"><SPAN /></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 14 0;"><SPAN>All digital spatial boundaries and the respective metes and bounds descriptions in the all Regulations have been updated to be in compliance with the 2014 update to the </SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"><SPAN>Wildlife Act</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN><SPAN>.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN /><SPAN>No meaningful changes to boundaries were done as part of this process.
