The NWT has been divided into Management Zones and Areas for the purpose of conserving and managing wildlife in the NWT. The larger zone boundaries are named and may be subdivided into smaller areas to meet specific management requirements. These boundaries are updated as required for wildlife management purposes. This dataset was originally created to support the 1998 Revision of the NWT Wildlife Act and the applicable Regulations to ensure that the boundary of any wildlife area was accurately mapped at a scale of 1:250,000. The metes and bounds descriptions and corresponding boundaries in the respective Regulations have been updated to be in compliance with the 2014 update to the Wildlife Act and to fulfil a commitment to comply with metes and bounds descriptions in paramount legislation from Canada and the settled land claim areas in the NWT.
These boundaries have been described under the 2014 Wildlife Act in the following regulations: Wildlife Management Zones and Areas Regulations, Inuvialuit Settlement Region Aklavik Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations, Inuvialuit Settlement Region Inuvik Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations, Inuvialuit Settlement Region Olokhatomuit Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations, Inuvialuit Settlement Region Paulatuk Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations, Inuvialuit Settlement Region Sachs Harbour Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations, and Inuvialuit Settlement Region Tuktoyaktuk Hunters and Trapper Committee Regulations. Data was originally stored in MUSKOX97 Arc/Info coverage and has been updated as MUSKOX02, MUSKOX03, MUSKOX07.
June, 2019 -Update of Muskox Area I MX 05. Area has been enlarged including I GB Area, Geomatics Specialist digitized from Grizzly Bear area to the Northwest to former I MX 05 area. Modification based on instructions by Patricia Lacroix, ENR.
Area I/MX/05 was adjusted according to an amendment to the Inuvialuit Settlement Region Regulations Tuktoyaktuk Hunters and Trappers Committee Regulations. |
