NOTE: The original intent of these boundaries was that where they were based on final land claim boundaries that the wildlife management area boundary would also follow the land claim boundary. This did not always occur and there are some locations where the boundaries do not match. Both sets of boundaries are correct as they have both been legally described. This Act is in the process of being updated. The corresponding Regulations will be updated once the Act has been adopted and these discrepancies will be removed.The data was originally drafted onto hard-copy 1:250,000 NTS map sheets and then was digitized into AutoCAD drawing files in 1995. All original digital data was received 13th of November, 1995 in AutoCAD DXF files. The data was converted to ARC/INFO coverage format.All theme layers were digitized by map sheet. They were separated into the individual theme layers and merged together. Some data was missing so non-linear data was digitized from the hard copy maps into the Roots digitizing system and then converted to ARC/INFO coverages. If the data were straight lines, lat/long coordinates were used to create a line file. All missing data was then merged with the original coverages. All polygons were closed and centroids added and then cleaned to establish topology.The original coverage datasets included line attributes that detailed the source of all line segments that made up each boundary and the polygon attributes included the name and any specific attributes of each feature.The bulk of the data layers were initially current as of 1996, however there were some layers that did have 1997 updates prior to the passing of the Act. Since then individual layers have had updates based on management requirements and corresponding changes to the Wildlife Regulations.. The individual theme layer metadata will record any updates.The original coverages had limited distribution and it was decided in June 2001, that most users would not need to know the original of every line segment and so the linework was compiled into fewer line segments and the source information was dropped. The data was available afterwards as shapefiles. The original linework source data is available if required.All boundaries that are considered Conservation Areas (Migratory Bird Sanctuaries, National Parks, Proposed National Parks, Thelon Wildlife Sanctuary (NWT and Nunavut portions) and Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary) were previously part of this dataset and are now found as part of the Conservation Areas dataset found in the SDE: Boundaries have been updated as required due to changes in the legislation.All digital spatial boundaries and the respective metes and bounds descriptions in the all Regulations have been updated to be in compliance with the 2014 update to the Wildlife Act.No meaningful changes to boundaries were done as part of this process. Changes were made to conform with metes and bounds descriptions in paramount legislation from Canada and the settled land claim areas in the NWTThe key changes have been as follows:All boundaries and metes and bounds descriptions are now compliant with what is included in the applicable land claim agreements and other relevant documents.All boundaries now reflect more current and accurate digital boundary features that are now available.Management Units have been changed to Management Zones.The following species have all been grouped by Management Zone (excluding Zone I) within a set of regulations called \u201cWildlife Management Zones and Areas Regulations\u201d: Wildlife Management Zones, Polar Bear, Outfitter Areas, Wood Bison, Barren Ground Caribou, Muskox, Wolf and Wolverine.The following separate Regulations have also been updated: Registered Group Trapping in Trapping Regulations, Bison Control Areas in Nuisance Bison Control Regulations,Wildlife Preserves,and the Mackenzie Bison Sanctuary in Wildlife Sanctuaries.The following Inuvialuit Settlement Region Hunter and Trapper Committees Regulations have been updated: Aklavik, Inuvik, Olokhatomuit, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, and Tuktoyaktuk contain as applicable the following species: Polar Bear, Barren Ground Caribou, Grizzly Bear, Lynx, Muskox, Wolf, Dolphin and Union Caribou, and Peary Caribou.The following data and metes and bounds descriptions were updated, but the Regulations were not: Border Licence Areas (Wildlife Licences and Permits), Critical Wildlife Areas\u2013 therefore the boundaries have not been changed.The digital boundary and metes and bounds description of the Thelon Game Sanctuary will be updated in conjunction with the Land Withdrawal Order (Dubawnt Lake), NWT Lands Actas they cover the same area.Wildlife Regions were deleted as they are a residual feature from pre-Nunavut.Since the Act has been passed, there have been a few updates to descriptions and boundaries that are reflected on a case by case basis.The following attributes may be present in each attribute file.
